FAQs

KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING
Check the monthly schedule to see where we're going. It will be posted on SchoolLoop and on this page.
1
How do I know what is due next class period?
Make sure you consult SchoolLoop for assignments. Assignments are also posted on the whiteboard every day. I suggest you take a picture of it with your cell phone or write it down in your planner. Being organized really helps you to stay on top of your assignments.

Remember, the only way to get an A is DOING the work and handing it in ON TIME.
2
How do I study?
-
Get enough sleep to stay awake in class.
-
Pay attention and take notes.
-
Go over your notes right after class to fill in anything you might have missed. Ask a classmate if they have the missing information.
-
Forget your cell phone - just leave it in your backpack. It is truly a distraction to learning. There will be times when I have you use your cell phone in class. Just make sure that you control your cell phone use - don't let the phone control you!
-
Do the reading.
-
Do the study guides.
-
Do NOT copy someone else's work. It will NOT help you learn or understand. AND Dr. Gundry will give you a zero because copying causes ZERO learning to take place.
-
Study before every test.
-
Make sure you understand every lesson. Since Biology builds on prior understanding, if you are lost on one topic, you will likely be even more lost. Make sure to get help!
STAY CURRENT
YOU CAN DO THIS!

HAVE GOALS
The goal for this class is NOT to pass the AP Biology Exam. The goal for this class is for you to
-
understand biologic principles and concepts better
-
to have acquisition of knowledge
-
to learn critical thinking skills and be able to assimilate, interpret and synthesize scientific knowledge.
-
to learn how to design scientific investigations
-
to learn how to apply mathematics to scientifc phenomena
-
to learn how to communicate scientific information in various ways that the scientific community does - journal articles (lab write-ups), poster sessions, and multi-media presentations.

By truly participating in the class and attaining the knowledge and skills that I've outlined, you will be ready to take and pass the AP Biology Exam. It is just one of many exams that you will take in your life. The knowledge and skills you learn in this class will serve you throughout college and as an informed, thinking citizen of the world.
3
How do I get help?
-
Form a study group at the beginning of the year. Make sure to meet regularly not just the 8 weeks before the AP Exam.
-
Ask a classmate to explain the concept to you.
-
Ask Dr. Gundry - email, in person after class, after school.
-
Tuesdays after school is "Study Group" is a facilitated study group with Dr. Gundry.
-
Thursday after school is a drop-in tutorial with Dr. Gundry (see Home page for hours).
-
By the way, copying someone else's homework is not "getting help." Copying the book or the smart kid's homework doesn't help you learn. You will still not understand. Understanding comes from processing information which is why peer tutoring, study groups and talking with Dr. Gundry can help but copying can't.
